Christen Mattix was born in Seattle but grew up in Thailand where her dad worked as a missionary translator. In the summer of 1999, Christen completed a studio apprenticeship with Tim Lowly in Chicago. In 2000, she received first place in the Beyond Borders Art Show for her Trace drawings. Christen has a BFA in Drawing from Western Washington University, and an MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. In addition to painting, Christen enjoys working in sculpture and video. She currently teaches painting at Seattle Pacific University.
